The History of Michigan Institute of Urology
Alphonse M. Santino, M.D. is the founding member of Michigan Institute of Urology. Dr. Santino has practiced Urology in the Metropolitan Detroit area since 1967. Dr. Santino is board certified by the American Board of Urology and had served as the President and CEO of the Michigan Institute of Urology.
Dr. Santino also served as Chief of the Section of Urology at St. John
Hospital and Medical Center from 1970-2007, and served on the hospital’s Board of Trustee’s for six years. Dr. Santino received a Bachelor of Arts from Wayne State University in 1958. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit, Michigan in 1962. General Surgical Residency was completed at Harper Hospital in 1964 and Urologic Residency at Harper Hospital, Detroit, Michigan in 1967.
Dr. Santino is fluent in Italian as well as English. He served as Chief of Urology, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas as well as a major in the Medical Corps, U.S. Army, Long Bing, Vietnam.
Dr. Santino is a member of the Wayne County Medical Society, the Michigan State Medical Society, and the Michigan Urology Association.
Although, Dr. Santino is no longer practicing urology, his hobbies include golfing and hunting.
